About Me

July 25th, 2008

Biographies are super sucky to write and worse to read sometimes, so I’ll make this brief.

A native of lower Michigan (picture me whipping out the hand-map of Michigan and pointing towards the lower, central area), I swung south for a few years and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Microbiology (B.S., 2001). I landed at Pfizer R&D for a couple of years (after doing the dreaded “move back home” that is much talked of nowadays) and played around with really giant polyacrylamide gels and tissue extracts.  This got me thinking about what it would be like to not be the lab peon, so I applied, and eventually matriculated at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. And here I remain, still working my PhD in Molecular Physiology (or more specifically, intermediate filaments in striated muscle. OMG DID YOU JUST FALL ASLEEP!? It was only five more words, you weener :P ), which I hope to finish in the next year or so. Maybe. Seriously. Okay. Right. I AM STILL AWESOME, DAMMIT. Sorta. I’m totally getting “PHD” tattooed on my ass so I can point to it and go “See that? Yeah, that’s me. You can call me doctor” for the remainder of all relationships. I picture this going over *really* well.

When not ripping out my hair when things don’t glow as they should, I’m also involved in the growing Alternate Reality Gaming (ARG) community. Starting as a player, I am now a Forum Administrator (Unfiction), an Assistant Editor (ARGNet), a conference planner and worker bee (ARGFest-o-Con 2008, 2009), and an occasional freelance Writer/Designer/Producer for ARGs (still unsure how that happened, and since it hasn’t again since, I can take a deep breath of relief without the added pressure of internet fame).

In all of the remaining spare time that I have, I moonlight at the local Barnes and Noble as the pedantic alphabetizer/categorizer, play fetch with my charming cat, Hobbes, teach myself to knit socks via Knitting for Dummies, finish NYT Thursday crossword puzzles, read voraciously, and have fantastic “Jackie Jackie Dance Parties” at random intervals. I also wear seriously high heels while prancing around in correspondingly short skirts.

Sometimes I sleep. But that’s usually pretty pointless.
